University of Tokyo
The school of Public Health at the University of Tokyo is composed of researchers who are affiliated with two distinctive yet related research projects, both projects are funded by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and labour for FY 2010-2012.
Project 1: This projects purports to integrate existing micro data to evaluate the system performance of current Japanese health care system on population health. Using government micro data including health interview survey, hospital census, and survey on household consumption, we will calculate the horizontal equity and catastrophic payment under Japanese universal insurance coverage.
Project 2. This projects purports to use a sister survey with U.S. Health and Retirement Survey to depict the social determinants of health among the elderly, including income, assets, consumption, health, and cognitive functions. Using the public open data derived from the Japanese Survey of Ageing and Retirement (JSTAR) with the use of government micro data on death certificate, we will see the impact of social determinants of health on elderly health and longevity.
