Fiji School of Medicine
Centre for Health Information, Policy and Systems Research (CHIPSR) commenced operations in Feb 2010. It is anticipated that CHIPSR will become a major activity of the University Research Unit and ?will provide the opportunity for staff, students and adjunct staff to research health system issues and to provide evidence for health policy developments in Fiji and the Pacific. The initial work of CHIPSR is assisting the Fiji ministry of health in the development, production, and institutionalization of the National Health Accounts (NHA) for Fiji as well as the proposed technical centre for NHA for the Pacific. The institute will continue to gather expertise on matters of health economics, national health financing and related policy areas. CHIPSR staff, associates and students will also become involved in issues related to health information and policy in the Pacific, while CHIPSR will also provide a vehicle for coordinating hospital and health systems operational research on a multiplicity of issues. CHIPSR is already affiliated with the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (WHO Geneva) the Asia Pacific National Health Accounts Network (APNHAN), EQUITAP, Nossal and is in early stage collaboration with the Human Resources Hub at UNSW.
